What it is used for
This is the basis for assessing a customer's financial capacity. The trend in revenue and equity over several years says more than any single figure – equity declining into negative territory is a warning even while the company still trades.
In accounting and invoicing systems it is used to set a credit limit or to decide whether to supply on account or require a deposit.
Frequently asked questions
Why does a company have no statement at all?
Either it is new and has not filed its first statement yet, or it has not met the obligation, or it is an entity that does not publish statements – a sole trader, for instance.
How far back do the statements go?
Typically several years, depending on what the register has published. The response contains a statements array with every year we hold for the company.
Do you compute financial ratios from this?
We return the raw values from the statements. Ratios such as leverage or return are yours to compute using your own methodology – we do not want to hide behind a single score what actually sits underneath it.
