Financial market entities (NBS)
The National Bank of Slovakia maintains the register of financial market entities – banks, insurers, investment firms, fund managers, payment institutions and financial intermediaries. A company providing financial services without an entry is providing them without authorisation.
What the register contains
- Whether the entity is regulated by the National Bank of Slovakia
- Types of licences and authorisations held
- Categories the entity is classified under
Fields we return
| Field | Meaning |
|---|---|
| is_regulated | Whether the entity is regulated by the National Bank of Slovakia. |
| license_types | Array of licence and authorisation types. |
| categories | Array of categories the entity is classified under. |
What it is used for
If you are entering a financial intermediation or asset management agreement, an entry in the NBS register is the basic authorisation check. Without it the counterparty may not provide the service.
When assessing a counterparty, a regulated entity means a higher degree of supervision and capital requirements – relevant context for a risk view.
Frequently asked questions
Does an entry mean the entity is trustworthy?
It means it holds a licence and is supervised. That is different from trustworthiness, but it is a verifiable fact you can check before signing.
Why is license_types an array?
Because one entity may hold several authorisations at once – a payment institution licence and financial intermediation, for instance. Reducing it to a single value would throw information away.
