The Commercial Journal is the official gazette in which facts concerning businesses are published. It is usually the first place a bankruptcy petition, an entry into liquidation or an auction appears – often before it is reflected anywhere else.

What it is used for
Customer monitoring: the bankruptcy section is an early warning. If you track a portfolio of companies, the journal tells you about a change sooner than a financial statement or a debtor list update would.
In legal systems it is used to monitor opposing parties in ongoing disputes and to catch liquidations.

Is every announcement bad news?
No. The journal also publishes routine Commercial Register changes and notices of general meetings. What matters is the section the announcement belongs to.
