Private security licences

Guarding, detective work and technical security services cannot be operated in Slovakia without a licence from the private security services authority of the Ministry of Interior. The register is public, and one company can hold several licence types at once.

What the register contains

  • Licence number issued by the authority
  • Licence type – guarding, detective, technical and others
  • Trade name and address of the holder as recorded

Fields we return

Field Meaning
license_number Licence number issued by the private security authority.
license_type Licence type – guarding, detective, training and consultancy, technical, in-house protection, CIT or accredited service.
valid_from Start of validity. The register does not publish it, so it is always empty.
valid_to End of validity. The register does not publish it, so it is always empty.
status Licence status. The register does not publish it, so it is always empty.

What it is used for

If you are procuring site security, the licence is a legal precondition. A contract with a company that lacks one is a contract for work the supplier may not perform.

The licence type matters more than its existence. A company licensed for technical services may install alarm systems, not guard premises – and the other way round.

Frequently asked questions

Why is the licence validity empty?

For companies the register publishes the licence number and type, not a validity period. We return an empty value rather than an invented date, so that we do not know cannot be mistaken for it has expired.

Can a company hold several licences at once?

Yes, and it is common. The register records seven licence types separately and we return each granted one as its own record.
